Bulman's History
Bulman Products traces its origins to 1905, when founder Elvah Orville Bulman began crafting his innovative Gem Take-Up Twine Holder in a small rented loft in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With just $200 and a commitment to building practical, durable tools, he set in motion a company rooted in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and American-made quality. Over the years, the product line expanded from twine holders to the paper cutters and dispensers that would become staples in retail, packaging, education, floral, and food-service environments nationwide.
As Bulman grew through the early and mid-1900s, the company built a reputation for reliability and long-lasting construction. After decades of family leadership, Bulman experienced its first major transition when it was sold to Rospatch Corporation in 1970. In 1982, longtime General Manager Jack Kirkwood purchased the business, revitalizing the focus on rolled-paper dispensers and preserving the traditional manufacturing approach that customers continued to trust. Following Jack’s passing, ownership shifted within the Kirkwood family, ensuring continuity while the brand continued to serve markets across the country.
After more than a century of steady evolution, Bulman Products entered a new phase when new ownership took over the company, opening the door to expanded capabilities and renewed strategic direction. Today, Bulman is proudly led by Brandon and Lindsay Buckingham, who bring fresh energy and a long-term vision for growth. Under their leadership, the company remains committed to American manufacturing while elevating product development, operational excellence, and customer experience.
Now operating from a modern facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bulman Products continues to build the durable cutters, dispensers, and workroom solutions that have defined the brand for more than 100 years.
